- Society of Genealogists
Founded in 1911, Britain's premier genealogical society. Maintains an extensive library and education centre in Clerkenwell, London. Particularly strong on records before civil registration began in 1837, but also has a Free Family History Access area for beginners.
- International Society for British Genealogy and Family History
Known as ISB, this society exists to help members research British Isles roots from overseas. Small, practical and friendly.
- Families In British India Society
For those researching European or Anglo-Indian ancestors who lived or worked in India or South Asia between 1600 and 1947. Includes a searchable database of more than 937,000 names, a research wiki, beginner to expert guides and an active blog.
- Foundation for Medieval Genealogy
Established in 2001, the FMG promotes research into medieval genealogy and prosopography and publishes the results. Open to anyone with an interest in the medieval period.
- Catholic Family History Society
Holds monthly meetings around the country and produces publications to assist with Catholic genealogy research. Memberships available.
- Jewish Genealogical Society of Great Britain
Founded in 1992, the JGSGB supports beginners and experienced researchers in Jewish genealogy, encourages research and promotes the preservation of Jewish genealogical records.
- Quaker Family History Society
Formed in 1993 and a member of the Federation of Family History Societies. Helps anyone tracing the history of Quaker families in the British Isles.
- Romany & Traveller Family History Society
For researching Romany, traveller or fairground ancestors. Includes publications with family trees, and a photo gallery of people and fairgrounds.
